CDC’s Public Health Training Network (PHTN) is a distance learning network of people
and resources that
takes training and information to the learner. PHTN uses a
variety of instructional media ranging from print-based
to videotape and
multimedia to meet the training and information needs of the health workforce
nationwide. Since
1993, PHTN has delivered nearly 1,000,000 training and
information opportunities to health professionals in a
variety of settings.
Enrolled participants who successfully complete PHTN training receive a
certificate of
participation and are eligible to receive Continuing Education
Units (CEU), Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)
credits or Continuing Medical
Education (CME) credits , as appropriate. In some instances, other accrediting
agencies also award credits for PHTN training. Evaluation studies demonstrate
that programs delivered through
PHTN, and distance learning as a medium, are
effective ways to update and enhance professional competencies.
Their learning
management system includes on-line registration, links to courses, testing and
evaluation, and CEU
credit.
